Sleep Apnea : Case Study – Multiple Sleep Latency Test

Posted on 06. Dec, 2009 by admin in Problems and Pitfalls of Identifying Sleep Apnea

Ms. Jones snored badly and had been tired for years. She was sleepy when driving and couldn’t stay awake during her favorite operas. She went to a “sleep lab” and was told she needed UPPP surgery.

After surgery she was pleased that she no longer snored, felt better, and was not sleepy while driving. However, she still felt tired. She was told that her trouble was related to stress and boredom.

She was restudied at an accredited sleep center and her MSLT showed that despite the surgery, she still had most of her sleep apnea. It also uncovered a second major sleep disorder that previously had been missed — narcolepsy.
